Police in the US are investigating after a 12-year-old was shot after throwing a snowball at a car.

NBC News, Sky’s US partner, said the child and an 11-year-old were throwing snowballs in the Connecticut city of Hartford on Wednesday night when one hit a car.

The vehicle “looped the block” to chase them and “fired rounds at the children,” Hartford Police Lieutenant Aaron Boisvert told reporters on Thursday.

He did not say how the child was, but did reveal his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The 11-year-old was not hit.

“It could have been a lot worse,” Lieutenant Boisvert said.
